One of Tampa's most popular events, the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am will be held at the TPC Tampa Bay, April 17-19. The Mobile Cigar Lounge company is a premiere partner for the second year and will have the MCL set-up and open to the public on the 16th hole. As well look for our Cigarista cigar servers throughout the course, offering premium cigars for sale. Come out this weekend and support our local community and catch a glimpse of your favorite celebrities.

The Pro-Am tournament has raised over 3 million dollars in he past five years for local Tampa Bay charities. This year celebrities include Bill Murray, Derrick Brooks, Michael J. Fox, Joe Theismann, Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, George Lopez, Mark Walberg, Stone Phillips, Ronde’ Barber, Jim Courier, Nancy Lopez and Vinny Testaverde.

Huge Cigar Tax in Full Effect

As the cigar industry braces for the fall out from the 700% tax increase on large cigars,
Many believe the effects from this increase could be devastating. The tax hike will not only effect retailers in the US but rollers, tobacco growers and manufactures throughout the Caribbean. As of yesterday the tax on large cigars will increase from 5 cents a cigar to 40 cents. Florida’s $2 billion cigar industry will no doubt be threatened, where 75% of the nation's cigar makers and distributors are based. Add in the dilapidated economy and our cigar industry may be on its last cinders.

So where is all this tax money headed? The State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) that will help 11 million low-income children. SCHIP has good intentions but like many government programs is flawed. So who do we tax, there has to be other ways to keep the program afloat. And what of the far reaching consequences, when a cigar manufacturer in Dominican Republic lays off employees and goes out of business? Who’s helping their children?

After a quick glance through numerous message boards, it seems cigar aficionados will continue to support the industry and keep on smoking, viewing the tax as a small way they can help. Let’s hope so. Cigars have never been a culprit; if anything they represent goodwill, celebration and appreciation for the finer moments in life.

Father's Day with Frank Vincent

The Nicest Mobster you'll Ever Meet!

The Mobile Cigar Lounge was invited to spend father's day with accomplished actor Frank Vincent and his family. Well known for his years of portraying classic Mafia characters including 'Phil' from Soprano's he is very charming and a far stretch from the characters he's famous for.

I'm sure your curious to know what cigar Frank enjoyed in The Lounge, well his own of course! The Frank Vincent Signature Cigar that he blended himself and are available from JR cigars. Having smoked cigars for a better part of his life he is an expert and has even wrote about the art in his book A Guy's Guide to Being a Man's Man.

Now as others are always asking Frank about this movie and that character, I wanted to know a little about Frank. He started off with a passion for music. He became an accomplished drummer early on and got a 'lucky break' with acting. Some luck....40 years later and still getting lucky!! Besides asking how he would like his cigar cut (only a clean straight cut for Frank) I asked what advice he has for success, "Follow your passion, never give up and everything will follow." Great advice from a great man.

Sex & the City Needed the Mobile Cigar Lounge!

I finally saw the Sex and the City movie. For any of you that saw it you will remember a scene where the main characters are celebrating on the eve of Carrie's and Big's wedding. The Buddakan Restaurant, one of New York's best, uber-hip, trendy hot spots was the venue for this scene in the film. The actors are draped in Louis Vuitton, Prada, Chanel, Manolo Blahniks, enjoying the smooth buttery draw of fine cigars and yet they are standing on the sidewalk next to the restaurant's front door looking rather uncomfortable. If only they had the pleasure of enjoying the Mobile Cigar Lounge! Even a film like Sex and the City points out the need for a cigar smoking solution! I'm off to contact Hollywood!

Cigar City Magazine Smoker Event in Ybor City

Last night we were on hand for the Cigar City Magazine Smokers event at tre Amici @ The Bunker in Ybor City. What a great time with good food and great cigars enjoyed by all! The Mobile Cigar Lounge (MCL) also provided the fine services of our cigar roller who was crafting fantastic cigars he custom blended with 8 kinds of tobacco!

Arturo Fuente Jr. and Darlene the Cigar Girl of Tampa Sweethearts also stopped by for a visit before the event got under way. It was an honor to have them be our guests in the MCL. Considering my personal favorite cigar is a Fuente Hemingway Short Story, I was happy to talk 'shop' with Darlene!

Overall the MCL was a big hit! I really should start recording people's reactions when they enter the Lounge for the first time, it's like love at at first sight! Here's some reactions from last nights event...

talked about Classic Airstreams, Oscar from Cigar Snob magazine was taking great pictures, enjoying a stogie and the atmosphere, Daryl and Dianne owners of Perfect Match Custom Tailors are always a pleasure, Heinz who's new to Tampa and doesn't smoke cigars couldn't get enough of 'lounging' in The Lounge! Everyone else who visited Thank You and look forward to asking again...'Straight, V or Punch Sir'!!
